Wishes from the Principal!
Introduction:
Elementary Education is a powerful tool to initiate human
resource development and help to flourish professional and social skills in
future. To realize the objectives of the National Policy on Education 1986
DIETs were started functioning from 1988. New DIETs were started functioning
in the newly formed districts of Tamilnadu in 1999. Thiruvarur district
DIET is one among the new DIETS.
Thiruvarur District:
Basically Thiruvarur is an agricultural district located in
Cauvery delta and started functioning as a separate district from 01-08-1997
followed by the bifurcation of Nagapattinam District. The land area of the
district is of 2161 sq.km and situated on the east coast of Tamilnadu
between 10°20’ and 11°07’ in the North latitudes 79º15’and 79°25’ in the
East longitudes.
HISTORY:
Headquarters of the district is Thiruvarur and it is place
of historical importance. It was the capital of Chola king who was
renowned for social justice and democratic administration. Thiruvarur is a
birth place of music trinity. Shyamasatri, Thiyagarajar , Muthusami
thekcheder are profound scholars. Mr.U.V.Swaminatha Iyyar and
Thiru.Vi.Kaliyana sundaranar were also born in Thiruvarur.
Mannargudi is one of the importance towns in Thiruvarur
district. One famous temple known as Rajagopala Swamy is located in
Mannargudi. The Rajagopala Swamy temple was built from1072 AD to 1122 AD by
the Chola king first Kulothungan and it took 50 years to complete the
construction and is located in the area of 6 acres with 154 feet Rajagopuram.
Infront of the temple there is a pillar of 54 feet in height made up of
single stone. It is welcoming us to visit the historical temple. At the top
of the pillar a small temple is built facing westerly direction and it is
known as Karuda sthambum.
Location of the DIET
The institution is located in Mannargudi on the sub National
Highways from Vedaranyam to Thanjavur it is and 38 km away from the Chola
capital Thanjavur in the easterly direction.
DIET, Thiruvarur District
It came into existence in the district through the G.O.M.S.
No. 41,
School Education (u1) Department, Dated 16-02-99 and started functioning
with 50 Students of both gender in the PSTE. It is serving to the Elementary
Education in particular and Secondary Education in general through training
and extention programmes.
According to census 2001, the total population of district is
11, 69,474
of
which 5, 80,784 are male and 5, 88,690 are female. The sex ratio of
Thiruvarur District is 1014 females for every 1000 males. At present 818
primary school, 191 middle schools and 158 upper primary section with
secondary and higher secondary schools of all types of management
functioning in Thiruvarur District. DIET, Mannargudi is catering to the
needs of the teaching community and students through extention service.
Academic support has been provided to a total of 100 Block Resource Teacher
Educators working in ten Block Resource Centers, and Teachers of 95 Cluster
Resource Centers of the District.
